Dissolving The Blocks

One way to get through writer’s block is to walk away from your writing.  Physically get up and go away from whatever it is you are working on at the moment. Do whatever you need to do to be able to leave your writing for at least 30 minutes. And if you can; go out for a walk, go for a drive, go to the mall and window shop. Just do something to take your mind off of writing.

After you’ve given yourself a reasonable rest from your work you will be able to look at it with fresh eyes. So as you sit down at your desk (or wherever it is you write), ask yourself this question – “What story am I telling?”, then write the first thing that comes to mind. Next ask yourself – “Why am I telling this story?”, and again write the first thing that tumbles out of your creative mind. And finally ask yourself – “Who am I telling this story to/for?”, then write that idea down.

After all of that or in between all of that, your writing should be flowing again. If not ask yourself more questions about your writing and continue to write the ideas out. It’s certain success for overcoming any amount of writer’s block.
